Common Questions

Everything you want to know before you try it

Honest answers about how BiteBetter parses receipts, handles your data, and turns an order into a nutrition scorecard.

How accurate is the receipt parsing?

BiteBetter uses OpenAI to extract item names from your receipt text and match them against the USDA FoodData Central database — over 400,000 food entries. For common chain dishes from DoorDash, Uber Eats, and Grubhub, accuracy is high because those items appear in the database directly. For hyper-local or highly customized items, BiteBetter finds the closest match and shows you exactly what it matched, so you can judge the fit. If a match looks off, you can search the USDA database manually and swap in the right food in seconds.

What happens to my receipt data?

Your receipt text is sent to our server only to extract item names — that's it. The raw receipt text is not stored. What we save is your scored result: the matched item names and their nutrient totals. We never sell your data to third parties, and we don't use your orders to train AI models. For the full details, see our privacy policy linked in the footer.

How does the nutrition scoring actually work?

Every item on your order is matched to a USDA FoodData Central nutrient record. Each nutrient is then measured as a percentage of the Dietary Reference Intake (DRI) published by the National Academies of Sciences — the same standards dietitians use. BiteBetter tracks 84 nutrients, not just calories. Your letter grade is derived from how your order performs across those nutrients: gaps below your DRI targets and excesses above safe upper limits both affect the score. The scorecard breaks each nutrient down so you can see exactly where your order falls short or goes over.

Which delivery apps are supported?

BiteBetter is built around DoorDash, Uber Eats, and Grubhub — paste any order confirmation email or order summary from those platforms and it works out of the box. Most other delivery platforms that send confirmation emails with item lists work too. You can also skip the receipt entirely and search the 400,000+ USDA foods manually to build a custom order and score it instantly.

What do I do after I get my scorecard?

The scorecard shows your nutrient gaps (where you fell short of your DRI targets) and excesses (where you went well over). From there, BiteBetter generates swap suggestions — different items from the same restaurant or cuisine that would close your gaps without blowing your budget. Save past orders to your account and the dashboard tracks your trends over weeks, showing which platforms and cuisines fit your goals best. Most users find a few small swaps — an extra side, a different protein — make a measurable difference within a week.
